We are asking the public to use caution and consideration during this pandemic, after thousands of people arrived at Folkestone’s coast over the bank holiday weekend, many of them travelling from outside the local area.
Activities such as sea swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking, and boating are now allowed under new Government guidelines. However, you should take extra care and follow safety advice when visiting the coast, and avoid any action that might put yourself (or others) at risk. Yesterday, the RNLI said that at least two people had lost their lives on the UK coast over the weekend.
Our volunteer lifeguards have returned to duty at Sunny Sands during weekends and they are doing their best to ensure your safety, despite a shortfall of funding and PPE due to the pandemic.
Government guidelines on social distancing should continue to be followed, and you should remain at least 2 meters away from anyone outside your household. If you have coronavirus symptoms, or if you have household members who are self-isolating, you should stay home.
Due to the large numbers of people visiting Sunny Sands, it may be extremely difficult for you to maintain social distancing at the beach when it is busy.
We hope that members of the public will help us to save lives by following safety advice and thinking before they visit the coast.
