During an exceptionally busy Sunday with several events taking place, Folkestone Rescue were already assisting with a medical emergency at Mermaid Beach when a South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAMB) vehicle arrived at Sunny Sands around 5.05pm, responding to a report of an adult female experiencing chest pains.
Folkestone Rescue crew immediately carried out a full search of Sunny Sands and Little Sands beaches (which were full of spectators watching the Red Arrows display). Despite the search, no casualty was found.
The SECAMB crew then received updated information suggesting that the location they had been given was inaccurate, and that the casualty was actually located near the lower Leas Cliff Lift station at Mermaid Beach. The SECAMB vehicle immediately left the scene with assistance of Folkestone Rescue crew, proceeding to the lower Leas where they met with Folkestone Rescue crew and Kent Police who had just finished responding to the earlier medical emergency. After a brief search, the casualty was located near the Leas Cliff Lift station, and was then taken into care by SECAMB. Folkestone Rescue crew then returned to Sunny Sands by 5.47pm, kindly escorted by Kent Police.
