Seals have recently been spotted resting on Folkestone’s beaches and swimming in the surrounding waters.

It is normal for seals to spend time out of the water, so if you find a live seal on the beach, it is unlikely to need any help.

Seals are not usually dangerous, but they can bite if they feel threatened. They may also put themselves at risk by trying to escape if they are approached.

Seals are protected by law under the Wildlife and Countryside Act. We recommend you keep your distance and do not approach these animals if you see them while you are out walking or swimming.

Dog owners should ensure their dogs are kept on a leash if seals are sighted nearby.
